Universal Design and Visitability
The design of a house directly impacts the ability of residents to live at home comfortably and safely. A good design can make it possible for residents to stay at home as they age or cope with a short- or long-term disability.
Sarasota County supports designing homes to better support these varied populations and aims, and has unveiled a voluntary recognition program for residential units that apply principles of Universal Design and Visitability.

For over a decade, SCOPE has been holding community engagement workshops throughout Sarasota County with a focus on local data. Using data as a catalyst for conversation allows us to have a strong foundation for communication about important community issues and how we may be able to make a difference.
This year, our focus is sustainability. Sustainability includes environmental, economic and social well-being. We will be showing data about Sarasota’s land, water, air, species, and built environment. We will also be providing resources for the community to get involved with current sustainability initiatives and educational opportunities.
This will be an interactive workshop using the Face to Face engagement method. This method was created by Pine View graduate Sam Schimek. You can find out more about this method at facetofacefoundation.org.
If you re interested in learning about the state of our local environment, current sustainability initiatives, and ways to get involved, than you’ll enjoy this workshop!
